Cigarettes – give them up without putting on weight

If you are a smoker and are worried that you will put on weight when you quit,  you don’t have to worry any more.  Putting on weight is one of the many misconceptions about what will happen once you have stopped smoking.

There are only 2 reasons why you should put on weight after you have quit smoking:

1 – If you wanted to put on weight

2 – If you needed to put on weight

Let me explain the latter. If you have been skipping meals or using cigarettes as  appetite suppressants… then what do you expect to happen when you quit, and start eating properly again?

What happens to people who crash diet? They tend to quickly put all the weight back on, and then some more. The same thing can happen when you quit smoking.

The good news is you can avoid this when you discover how your body works and start to respect its rules.

Your body is a supremely intelligent machine with an innate ability to get what it needs for optimal function: regular intake of nutritious foods and fluids.

If you deprive your body of these, you will gain more weight in the long run.

Because when you decide that you will start eating again, which does happen sooner or later, your body will take every single calorie you ingest and store it as fat.

So, here is what I recommend my clients and what you can begin to do too: instead of waiting until you have already decided to quit smoking, now you can start to counteract some of the harm you have caused your body.

Research shows that when you eat 5 to 6 small healthy meals a day you speed up your metabolism, which in turn helps you burn more fat. Introduce 3 to 4 exercise sessions a week (make sure you get out of breath) and you are well on your way to a healthier, leaner you.

Not only will you stay in shape after you’ve quit cigarettes, but you will start to think and feel differently about yourself too.

Some of the amazing presents your body gives you as a thank you for treating it right are: increased clarity and focus, stress reduction, no cravings, better sleep, improved breathing, more energy, reduced cellulite, healthier skin…

Treat your body like the most valuable possession you have. Because it is.
